Can You Freeze Canned Pumpkin?

To Freeze Canned Pumpkin, Use Resealable Freezer Bags

  1. If you have recipes that you make frequently, measure the specific amount needed for the recipe, place it in the bag, and label the bag with the date and recipe name. Otherwise, simply scoop the remaining pumpkin into a freezer bag.
  2. Squeeze as much air out as possible before sealing the bag. The less air you have in the bag, the less space you will use in your freezer. Also, less air means you can store your pumpkin even longer. The thin layer will also help the pumpkin to freeze faster.

Freeze Canned Pumpkin in a Muffin Tin

  1. Lightly coat muffin cups with cooking spray or oil.
  2. Scoop the pumpkin into the cups and freeze.
  3. Once the pumpkin is frozen, take them out of the pan, place it in a resealable bag, and store it in the freezer.
  4. If you have trouble getting the frozen pumpkin out of the cups, you can set the pan in hot water for a brief time to loosen the bottom. A silicone muffin tin would allow you to push the frozen pumpkin out of the cup.

How to Use Frozen Pumpkin

Let the pumpkin thaw on the counter or in the refrigerator overnight. Defrosted pumpkin will be watery, so be sure to stir the liquid back into the pumpkin before using it.

Freezing Tip

For the best quality and texture, you should use the frozen pumpkin within 12 to 18 months. Since warm air enters your freezer every time you open the door, storing the pumpkin in the back of the freezer will help keep it fresher longer.
